NYSCAR …Bringing commercial real estate practitioners together

President’s Column                              January, 2010

Joseph F. Rowley, Jr., President

The first meeting of the year for the NYSCAR Board of Governors will be held January 30, 2010 at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany , New York.  The Board will review and act on the proposed slate of committee volunteers/chairs.  The 2009 REALTOR® of the Year will be announced and the governors and officers will be officially installed.  I am looking forward to a very productive meeting as we begin the New Year.

On March 16, NYSCAR, in cooperation with the Metro Long Island Chapter of NYSCAR will sponsor a Business Valuation course, instructed by Bob Giniecki, CCIM, SEC. On April 21, NYSCAR, in cooperation with the Hudson Valley Chapter of NYSCAR will sponsor Chuck Sutherland’s 6-hour creative formulas course.  These are great opportunities to earn continuing education, so we hope you take advantage of these offerings.

Please be sure to mark your calendar for the 9th Annual NYS Commercial Real Estate Conference which will be held June 14-16, 2010 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York.  The event will be sponsored by the New York State Commercial Association of REALTORS®, the New York State Chapters of CCIM and SIOR and the Society of Exchange Counselors.  Over the years, the event has grown and attracted commercial practitioners from across the country.  It is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues at the commercial marketing session, earn continuing education and golf on a top rated course. The conference is an outstanding value and second to none! Lunch and breakfast is included in the registration fee.  Last year NYSCAR sponsored a dinner with a panel of industry experts to discuss timely topics.  This was a great addition to the conference and will be continued this year.  The planning committee, chaired by John Lavelle (Pine Bush, 2nd VP of NYSCAR), has been meeting to plan details for the conference.  Keeping the challenging economy in mind, the committee is careful to keep the conference extremely affordable.  Please watch for future articles outlining the program. If you or your company would like to exhibit at the conference, please email Ali Mann ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Professional Standards Program:  The NYS Association of REALTORS® will be offering Code of Ethics/professional standards training, as they have over the past few years.  The course, instructed by NYSAR VP of Board and Member Services Patrick Reilly, will carry continuing education credit and will be offered on the following dates and locations:  Jan.  21, Buffalo, Marriott Amherst;  Jan. 22, Rochester, Marriott, Rochester, West Ridge Road; Feb. 25, Syracuse, Doubletree Hotel, Syracuse; Feb. 26, Binghamton, Binghamton Regency;  Mar. 5, Lake Placid, High Peaks Resort;  Mar 9, Tarrytown, Westchester Marriott; Mar. 12,   Albany, Albany Marriott (registration form attached).
